Despite her recent re-thinking of the Iraq war, Susan Collins is out of step with the people of Maine. Collins will try to cast herself as a moderate, but she has consistently stood with the Bush administration's failed policies, giving Bush a vote in favor of an open-ended American commitment in Iraq by opposing a timeline for withdrawal. Six-term Congressman Tom Allen is in the race – and he is laying the groundwork for a strong campaign. Allen raised almost $1.1 million dollars in the second quarter and has $1.7 million on hand. Collins is a weak Republican in a blue state in a presidential year, and Allen has what it takes to win.
