Democrats have their eye on New Mexico. Democratic gains in 2006 combined with a recent spate of bad press for Republican Pete Domenici spell trouble. Though Domenici is in his sixth term, Patricia Madrid (D) came within 900 votes of defeating entrenched Congresswoman Heather Wilson in 2006, proving that political longevity doesn't guarantee a win in New Mexico. In 2008, the 74 year-old senator must contend with a presidential election that may include Richardson on the ballot, further complicating his re-election efforts.
