Lamar Alexander has reason to be concerned about his 2008 re-election prospects. In a recent poll, only 47% of voters said he deserved another term. With Bush's popularity sinking even in traditionally red states such as Tennessee, Alexander's association with him has proven detrimental. Democrat Mike McWherter, son of former governor Ned McWherter, announced in September that he is forming an exploratory committee to consider a run against Alexander. Democrats have an opportunity to pounce on this race.
