In a poll earlier this year, 33% of registered voters didn't recognize the name of Republican John Cornyn - shocking for a sitting senator. And of those who recognized him, a surprisingly low 41% viewed him favorably. Of all Republican senators, Cornyn is perhaps the least liked by his constituents. Low elect-ability ratings (less than 50% plan to re-elect him) have created a ripe opportunity for his two Democratic challengers. Attorney Mikal Watts and State Representative Rick Noriega are candidates in the primary. Either would be a strong Democratic challenger to Cornyn.
