With the Republican primary for U.S. Senate four days away, the party's endorsed candidate, Jan Ting, has a commanding fund-raising lead over Christine O'Donnell and Mike Protack.
As of Thursday afternoon, Protack was delinquent in filing the pre-primary finance report that was due Aug. 31, according to records at the Senate and Federal Election Commission.
In addition, the FEC has sent Protack a "Notice of Failure to File" letter warning he could face civil fines or other penalties -- his second such notice this year.
Protack said Thursday he thought the report, prepared by his wife and campaign treasurer, Mary Anne, had been mailed last week. After calling FEC headquarters in Washington, Protack said, they instructed him to immediately send the papers by overnight mail. "That's what I have to do,'' Protack said.
The Delta Air Lines pilot said he has raised "just over $100,000'' during the campaign and has about $10,000 in the bank.
His July report of contributions and expenses through June 30 -- also filed late -- showed he had raised $72,520 and loaned the campaign $30,000. At that time, he had $32,132 in the bank.
