Schumer Statement on New Mexico

Senator Charles E. Schumer, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, made the following statement about the expected announcement that Senator Pete Domenici will not run for re-election:

"Pete Domenici has served his state and his country honorably for many years, and we will miss him in the Senate. I know my colleagues on both sides of the aisle join me in wishing him well as he takes on this next challenge in his life."

"New Mexico is a state where Democrats have a long history of winning elections, and with a deep bench of talented Democratic candidates, we look forward to fielding a nominee who will wage a successful campaign. We feel very good about our chances to increase the Democratic majority in the Senate next year."
