Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) had a bumpy August politically, to say the least.
Yet the three-term lawmaker with a penchant for putting his foot in his mouth entered September in surprisingly good shape given the negative publicity his comments generated.
That hasn't stopped Burns' opponent, state Senate President Jon Tester (D), from compiling a "highlight reel" of the Senator’s gaffes, which his campaign will begin showing on the YouTube Web site today.
Whether he was accusing Virginia firefighters of doing a "piss-poor job" or commenting about the "nice little Guatemalan man" - with uncertain immigration status - who is doing work on his Virginia home, Burns spent most of August apologizing for his off-the-cuff remarks.
Probably the most damaging incident came in late July when Burns reportedly stalked up to an elite group of firefighters from Augusta, Va., in the Billings, Mont., airport and accused them of not doing a "goddamned thing" to put out a raging wildfire in Montana.
