Former President Bill Clinton, the Democrats' favorite Democrat, stood with U.S. Senate candidate Amy Klobuchar before a crowd of more than 1,400 people Saturday night to shed some of his rainmaking power on her and her political party.
Clinton raised cheers at the fundraising dinner held at the RiverCentre in St. Paul when he said that Klobuchar "may be the very best we have in the United States."
His presence in Minnesota, and that of President Bush at a Republican fundraiser in August, illustrates the importance that both parties place on this Senate race.
"It's the most competitive race in the country," said Mark Drake, communications director for the Republican Party in Minnesota. "It speaks to the fact that they have to bring in their most important fundraiser," he said.
