Democrats are leading in the races for Ohio governor and U.S. Senate, according to the Ohio Poll.

The poll was conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati between Sept. 7 and Sept. 17, using a random sample of 671 likely voters, according to a news release.

The results:

-In the Ohio gubernatorial race, Democrat Ted Strickland has 12 point lead over Ken Blackwell, with 50 percent choosing the eastern Ohio congressman, and 38 percent saying they'll vote for the Cincinnati-born secretary of state. Another 3 percent said they'll vote for Independent Bill Pierce and 2 percent for Independent Bob Fitrakis.

-In the Senate race, Democratic congressman Sherrod Brown holds a 4 point lead over incumbent Sen. Mike DeWine. Among those surveyed, 51 percent said they'll vote for Brown, while 47 percent chose DeWine.

Those results might have something to do with the general mood of Ohio voters. According to the Ohio Poll, 69 percent say the state is "off on the wrong track," and only 27 percent see it as "heading in the right direction."

Among those who are dissatisfied with Ohio's direction, Strickland leads Blackwell 59 percent to 29 percent; and Brown leads DeWine 61 percent to 37 percent, the poll said.
