Dan Brush says Rep. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was a big help when it came to getting federal training assistance for laid-off workers at Capital City Press.
"Bernie did a huge job in making sure we got those benefits," Brush, vice president of the Teamsters' union local that represented Capital City workers, said Saturday.
The comment in a phone interview came as Sanders, labor union leaders and workers gathered at a Winooski factory that shut down last year due to overseas competition to decry the effects of "outsourcing."
Sanders went to bat for Capital City workers after the U.S. Department of Labor had denied retraining benefits to worker at the Barre-based company; the agency later reversed that decision.
Sanders, who is seeking the U.S. Senate seat being left open by the retirement of Sen. James Jeffords, I-Vt., said he would continue to fight to lessen the effects of outsourcing on American workers.
