Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jon Tester stopped off in Billings on Saturday, to launch his plan to achieve energy independence for America.
With a backdrop of soaring gas prices, Tester and his supporters gathered at the Village Mart gas station in the Heights.
Tester says he wants to focus on promoting renewable energy and bio-fuels in Montana.
Supporters of the Big Sandy farmer applauded his efforts to invest in clean coal technology, and to research of ethanol fuels grown in Montana.
Tester's critics call his new plan hypocritical, and similar to the energy bill that was opposed by Democrats in 2005.
Tester says his plan is not only a solution for energy independence, but also a matter of "national security".
