Elkoans get chance to meet Carter

Former President Jimmy Carter and his son, senatorial candidate Jack Carter, have continued on the campaign trail a day after they stopped in Elko, but their visit has left a lasting impression on local residents.
Some were able to shake the former president's hand or share a few words. For others, hearing the former leader of the free world speak in their hometown was treat enough. Most agreed the visit was a good thing for Elko.
Below is a roundup of some of their reactions after the Carters' visit on Wednesday:
John Rice, executive director of the Great Basin College Foundation, attended the Rotary luncheon, where he shook Jimmy Carter's hand and had a chance to say "thank you." He said the event was great.
"One of my colleagues used the phrase, 'he (Jimmy Carter) exudes goodness.' He said, 'even his eyes smile,'" Rice said. "It doesn't matter, partisan or not, if you are president it is because you are charismatic and can take a whole room inside yourself. That is what he does."
