A new poll shows Democratic congressman Harold Ford Jr. has gained ground in the U.S. Senate race, drawing about even with Republican Bob Corker.

Ford was favored by 43 percent in the survey of registered, likely voters, compared to 42 percent for Corker, according to poll results published Sunday.

The poll had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points so the margin is not statistically significant.

Mason-Dixon Polling & Research of Washington conducted the statewide survey of 625 likely voters Sept. 25-27 for The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, the Chattanooga Times Free Press and MSNBC.

Fourteen percent of respondents were undecided.

"It's a tossup at this point, and clearly Ford's gaining ground," said Brad Coker, managing director of the Mason-Dixon poll. "Republicans have to be concerned about that."
