Poll: Allen, Webb tied

A recent poll finds that U.S. Sen. George Allen, R-Va., and Democratic challenger Jim Webb are currently tied in the Virginia Senate race. It shows that 43 percent of statewide voters support both candidates while 12 percent remain undecided.

The poll - an MSNBC/McClatchy Poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research - shows that only 2 percent of Virginia voters support Green Party candidate Gail 'for Rail' Parker.

It found that 57 percent of those surveyed felt the country was heading on the wrong track, with only 21 percent of voters approving of Congress' recent job performance and 42 percent approving of President George Bush's job performance.

Twenty-three percent of voters surveyed said the war in Iraq was the top issue in determining which Senate candidate they would choose on Nov. 7. The poll found that only 36 percent of voters approved of the Bush administration?s current policies in Iraq.

Forty-five percent of those surveyed felt troop levels in Iraq needed to stay the same or increase, while 41 percent felt there should be some type of troop withdrawal.
