Republican congressional candidate Joy Padgett will try to make up for lost fundraising time with an event near the White House featuring presidential political strategist Karl Rove.

An invitation obtained by The Associated Press says Rove, the architect of President Bush's campaign successes, is a special guest for a Padgett fundraiser Oct. 20 at a well-established Washington power hangout.

The invitation for the lunchtime event sets contribution goals from $1,000 to $5,000.

Padgett, a state senator from Coshocton, entered the race for a U.S. House seat in eastern Ohio last month when GOP Rep. Bob Ney decided not to seek re-election. Since then, Ney agreed to plead guilty to federal corruption charges and the race to replace him has garnered national attention.

Padgett faces Democrat Zack Space of Dover, who started running in late 2005 and has been the party nominee for the seat since May.

Her campaign had planned a fundraiser with House Speaker Dennis Hastert for this week, but Hastert backed out when he came under fire for his handling of the Mark Foley congressional page sex scandal.
