With only hours to go before U.S. Senate candidates face off in Spokane, Mike McGavick criticized incumbent opponent Maria Cantwell for the abridged length of Thursday's debate.

The first debate between McGavick and Cantwell, hosted tomorrow by the Spokane Roatary club, will be only 30 minutes which is half the time of the hour-long debate scheduled on October 17 in Seattle.

McGavick wanted the Spokane debate to be an hour long, but said Cantwell refused because she does not want to debate issues that are important to Eastern Washington

Cantwell fired back to McGavick's criticism in a statement to KIMA. She reaffirmed her commitment to debate McGavick at least seven times before voting begins, four of which will be televised around the entire state.

"Throughout the past six years, Senator Cantwell has worked to represent all of Washington state and she's spent a lot of time in central and eastern Washington hearing from constituents and talking about the issues that matter to our state," the statement said. "We were pleased to accept the Spokane Rotary's debate invitation as they proposed it."
