Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow continues to lead Republican Mike Bouchard by double digits less than a month before the election, according to a poll published Sunday.

In the poll of 643 likely voters by Des Moines, Iowa-based Selzer & Co., 48 percent said they'd choose Stabenow if the election were held today, 35 percent chose Bouchard, the Oakland County sheriff, and 17 percent were listed as "other/not sure."

The poll published by the Detroit Free Press was conducted Oct. 8 through Wednesday for the newspaper and Detroit television station WDIV. It had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Following a poll taken in August, the same polling company said Stabenow was leading Bouchard, 50 percent to 37 percent, with 13 percent unsure or giving another response. The election is Nov. 7.

In another poll, 48 percent of the 600 likely voters polled Oct. 3-4 said they would vote for Stabenow, while 35 percent backed Bouchard. Fifteen percent were undecided and about 2 percent said they support other candidates.

That poll was conducted by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA for The Detroit News and TV stations WXYZ in Southfield, WOOD in Grand Rapids, WILX in Lansing and WJRT in Flint. It had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
