Former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga., will be in Billings on Monday to stump for Senate candidate Jon Tester.

Cleland will appear during a Tester rally at 10 a.m. Monday in the Student Union Ballroom at Montana State University-Billings.

Cleland served in the U.S. Senate from 1997 to 2003. His career includes serving as administrator of the U.S. Veterans Administration during President Carter's administration. He earlier had been the Georgia secretary of state and a state senator. He earned a Bronze Star and a Silver Star for service in Vietnam.

Tester, who is challenging Republican incumbent Sen. Conrad Burns, said in a release that Cleland's visit "has a very special meaning."

"Sen. Cleland is an outspoken advocate for change in American and a strong supporter of America's men and women in uniform," Tester said.
