Republican U.S. Senate nominee Bob Corker on Friday demanded an "offensive and reprehensible" radio advertisement by a group unaffiliated with his campaign be pulled from the air.
The ad criticizes Democratic opponent Harold Ford Jr.'s membership in the Congressional Black Caucus, which the ad says "represents the interests of black people above all others."
The ad is paid for by a group identified as Tennesseans for Truth.
The ad also emphasizes that Ford grew up in Washington and went to college and law school outside of Tennessee.
"Tennesseans want a colorblind senator, a real Tennessean, representing all of us without discrimination," the 60-second ad says.
In a letter to Gallatin radio station WHIN-AM, Corker campaign manager Tom Ingram said that the broadcaster is under no obligation to run ads by groups not related to the campaigns.
"Bob Corker believes this sort of advertisement has no place in this, or any other campaign, and is the basis for his and our campaign's strong objection," Ingram wrote in the letter.
