Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee and Democratic challenger Sheldon Whitehouse square off today in another debate.

The two meet this afternoon to debate on radio host Arlene Violet's show. The two held their first debate last week, and it quickly turned contentious. Chafee accused Whitehouse of turning a blind eye to corruption as the former state attorney general and as the U.S. Attorney in Rhode Island.

But Whitehouse said Chafee is part of the problem in Washington and that the senator is going negative because he has few accomplishments. Both candidates are critical of the war in Iraq, support legalizing gay marriage and oppose tax cuts for the rich.

So instead, the campaigns have focused largely on Chafee's Republican party. Whitehouse said a vote for Chafee means a vote for Republican programs and positions unpopular in Rhode Island. But Chafee argued that he votes independently, and often disagrees with the Bush agenda.
