The City Council on Tuesday delayed action on approving settlement of a lawsuit brought against U.S. Senate candidate Bob Corker by environmentalists in connection with a greenway easement near Eastgate.

Commission members said they are continuing to gather information on the settlement and felt no need to hurry.

Attorneys in the case last week said the matter is settled, but declined to give any details.

The city reportedly will receive some additional land near the new Brained Wal-Mart and a trail will be built through it.

Chancellor Howell Peoples had ruled that former Chattanooga Mayor Corker would have to give a 3-hour deposition in the case prior to the election, but the settlement negated that.
