The day after Republicans denied that they are abandoning Sen. Mike DeWine's campaign, a trio of new polls show him falling further behind Democrat Sherrod Brown as an apparent wave of anti-GOP sentiment sweeps over Ohio.

Perhaps more important than the results are the trends: In just the past month, Brown's lead in the Ohio Poll grew to 7 percentage points from 4 points, and in the Quinnipiac University Poll it swelled to 12 points from 1 point.

"I think it's pretty clear there's a wave out there that's helping Democrats," said Peter Brown, assistant director of Quinnipiac's polling institute.

Further evidence came last night when a CBS News/New York Times Poll showed Brown with a 14-point lead, 49 to 35. That poll’s Ohio debut this year also shows State Issue 2, the proposed hike in Ohio's minimum wage, passing with 84 percent of the vote.

The University of Cincinnati's Ohio Poll showed Democrat Ted Strickland leading Republican J. Kenneth Blackwell in the gubernatorial race by 14 points, 2 more than a month ago. Quinnipiac will release its gubernatorial figures today. The CBS/New York Times survey showed Strickland ahead by 25 points.
