Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Harold Ford Jr., D-Tenn., said today that if elected he would accept any invitation to join a bipartisan group of senators called the "gang of 14." p At an early morning prayer breakfast here, Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., one of the group's original members, said Rep. Ford would put what's right above partisan politics. He said Rep. Ford should join the group, formed last year in an effort to reach an accord over controversial judicial nominees.
"We need Harold Ford Jr. because he is going to reach across the aisle," Sen. Pryor said. "He's going to work with everybody. We need a 15th member."
Rep. Ford is vying with GOP nominee Bob Corker, former mayor of Chattanooga, to replace retiring Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
