Sen. Mary Landrieu has raised more than $1.2 million in the past three months as the Democrat she prepares to fight for re-election to a third term in 2008.

She has about $2.7 million in her account, her campaign said.

Officials from both major parties expect the race for Landrieu's seat in the U.S. Senate to cost between $10 million and $15 million.

"We're well on our way to building a strong, well-financed 2008 campaign," said Ron Faucheux, Landrieu's campaign chairman. "We will continue to accelerate the pace as the election draws near."

As Landrieu continues to fill her campaign war chest, her potential field of rivals remains unknown.

The state Republican Party expects candidates will emerge after the 2007 governor's race is over.

"There has been a lot of interest in running against Mary," said James Quinn, executive director of the state Republican Party. "There are a couple other people interested. We'll see how the election plays out this year."
