Dole fund raising down in 2nd quarter

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole raised $823,000 in the second quarter this year, bringing her 2007 total to $2.6 million, said her political consultant, Mark Stephens.

She spent $559,000 in the second quarter, leaving her with $1.76 million in the bank. The second-quarter campaign finance period ended June 30. Senate reports are due to be postmarked today.
Stephens said Dole's drop from the first quarter came in part because the campaign was working on infrastructure, hiring staff and buying equipment. Dole also held fewer fund-raisers and generally was busier in the Senate, focusing especially on trying to block the immigration bill that collapsed in July, he said.
