Johnson speaks on Senate floor

South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson returned to Capitol Hill today and spoke on the Senate floor this afternoon."It must already be clear to you that my speech is not 100 percent," he said haltingly.
"My doctors tell me that it will get there. But my thoughts are clear and my mind is sharp and I'm here to be a voice for South Dakota in the Senate."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gave a lengthy speech praising Johnson, his wife and his doctors. Most senators were in the chamber to hear Johnson's remarks, and he received two standing ovations from his colleagues.
"We love you, I love you," Reid said.
South Dakota Sen. John Thune, a Republican who narrowly lost a challenge to Johnson in 2002, also praised the Democrat.
"Senator Johnson's return today to this illustrious Chamber marks an incredible journey that took him from normalcy, to near death, to tremendous recovery," Thune said on the floor.
