Senator Jay Rockefeller announced on Sunday there will be billions of dollars in financial aid for students in the coming year.

The price of a college education comes with its sacrifices.

"First, I had to get rid of my car and I had to get rid of my place, and I had to downsize everything to be able to afford it," said Antonio Perez, Shepherd University Senior.

Senator Jay Rockefeller came to Shepherd University with some good news; students will be getting more financial aid next year, billions of dollars more. It's part of a bill passed by Congress just days ago.

"This money, which is an enormous amount, is going to increase Pell Grants starting next year, increase student aids, student loans. It's going to reduce the interest that you have to pay in half on student loans," said Rockefeller.

The bill also said that students who spend 10 years in a public service job will not have to pay back any of their student loans.

"We're a country in need of people who are willing to go to work for less money because those jobs pay less money, and therefore, if they are willing to do that, to give it 10 years, this bill says all their student loans are forgiven," said Rockefeller.
