Congressman Tom Allen, a member of the House Budget Committee, said Wednesday he is "very pleased" that the Senate approved $26.9 million to make modifications to the jetty at Camp Ellis in Saco and and curtail its damaging impacts.Allen issued his statement after the Senate gave final approval and reauthorization of the Water Resources Development Act earlier this week. However, the project may be in jeopardy because President Bush has threatened to veto the funding bill.
"As the winter storms earlier this year dramatically demonstrated, without this long-needed remediation, beach erosion will continue to pose a hazard to the people who live in Camp Ellis, Ferry Beach and other area neighborhoods," Allen said. "I urge the president not to veto this important legislation.”
