Recovering Sen. Tim Johnson to visit West River this week

For the first time in nearly a year, Sen. Tim Johnson will visit West River South Dakota this week as he continues to heal from a severe brain injury, according to his staff.Johnson, a two-term Democrat, will be in Rapid City for official business only, a staffer said Monday. He will make an appearance at the South Dakota School of Mines and at a National Guard event, according to the staffer, and will also make appearances in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen. The visit will happen over the weekend or early next week; final details were being nailed down Tuesday.
He has not yet made a formal announcement of his plans in 2008 although he has told some national media outlets and some supporters that he will seek a third term.
Following an appearance with former Sen. George McGovern at Dakota Middle School Saturday night, Democratic political advisor Steve Jarding said he spoke with Johnson in April and the senator hold him that he "had been given a second chance" and wanted to continue to serve in the Senate.
In an interview with ABC's "Nightline," shown in August, Johnson told reporter Bob Woodruff "I expect to run and to win" in 2008.
